Joseph fell in love with music listening to big band recordings in junior high school. He tooted for a while on trumpet and trombone, but eventually the plumbing won the upper hand and he cried “Uncle!”. Fortunately, there remained voice, and the relative calm of guitar.
Joseph sang classical choral music with Canticle A Cappella Choir under the direction of Phyllis E. Zimmerman for nine years. He also wrote songs for a Santa Barbara children’s theater project for 10 years, partnering with Renee Tillotson (Founder/Director of Still & Moving Center in Honolulu, Hawaii) to create original theater based on myths and legends from around the world.
In 2006 Joseph was awarded a Santa Barbara ‘Indy’ for his original staged production, “Walt Whitman, Radical Patriot” performed at Victoria Hall Theater.
Joseph has written performing arts reviews and features for The Santa Barbara Independent and Santa Barbara Voice, and hosted “The Classical Now” on KCSB-FM from 2012 - 2015.
He also plays classical guitar, believing that life is just a whole lot better with a little Bach under your fingers.
